CNBC’s John Harwood Calls Democrat Under FBI Investigation a ‘Republican Governor’

John HarwoodCNBC host John Harwood apologized to viewers after he mistakenly identified Virginia governor Terry McAuliffe, the former chairman of the Democratic National Committee and a major Clinton ally, as a Republican.

Harwood reported on Monday the breaking news that McAuliffe was under investigation by the FBI and the Department of Justice. “The FBI is investigating Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe for potential illegal campaign contributions. The investigation is believed to involve donations from a Chinese businessman who does have a green card and from businesses associated with him,” he accurately reported.

But then he reported that “this is the second consecutive Republican Governor to face a corruption investigation. Terry McAuliffe’s predecessor, Bob McDonnell, was convicted of corruption charges.”

After conservative viewers and sites like Newsbusters pointed out his error, Harwood took to Twitter to acknowledge his mistake.
