Competitive snowmobiler Caleb Moore, 25, died today as a result of the severe injuries he suffered in a crash at the X Games last week. CNN reported on his death and showed the gruesome disaster that caused his fatality.
“You may want to turn away,” host Brooke Baldwin warned as she showed the video of Moore’s snowmobile getting stuck in a snow bank during a failed flip attempt. The vehicle ended up hitting the rider in the chest and ultimately caused his death.
Even though he was “lucid” immediately after the accident — reportedly asking his brother what had happened — doctors discovered bleeding around Moore’s heart, leading to a surgery that caused even further complications.
Moore is the first athlete to ever die from his injuries at the X Games. The series’ host ESPN released a statement expressing that they are “deeply saddened by Caleb Moore’s passing and our thoughts and prayers go out to his parents, Wade and Michelle, his brother, Colten, and the entire Moore family.”
