Between Donald Trump declaring he wouldn’t appear at the Fox News debate and the actual Trumpless debate, the GOP frontrunner appeared with Bill O’Reilly. O’Reilly, of course, confronted Trump about his decision, but at one point he also practically begged Trump to reconsider.
On CNN’s Reliable Sources this morning, David Zurawik said that while he thinks very highly of O’Reilly and considers him a Johnny Carson=like figure in cable news, when he interviewed Trump, “he was not only off his game, he looked kind of pathetic.”
In a subsequent segment, Brian Stelter asked conservative TV host Steve Malzberg if O’Reilly was “desperate.”
Malzberg thought O’Reilly was “begging,” and said that while he used to think O’Reilly’s worst moment was his Super Bowl interview of President Obama, this tops it.
He called it “pathetic” and said, “Trump trashed Megyn Kelly to Bill O’Reilly and he didn’t say boo!”
Stelter agreed it was “inappropriate.”
And on top of that, Stelter devoted a whole separate segment to tensions between O’Reilly and Kelly over ratings.
