CNN Panel Excoriates Roseanne for Ambien Excuse: ‘Have You Been on Ambien for the Past 15, 20 Years?’

Roseanne Barr‘s Ambien explanation for her racist tweet stunned a lot of people, and a CNN panel this morning wasn’t quite buying it.

CNN’s Brian Stelter reviewed how Barr has been “posting in a manic way” and noted her now-deleted tweet talking about how “unforgivable” her tweet was and how she “was ambien tweeting.”

“Barr is going back and forth,” Stelter said, “between apologizing and portraying herself as the victim. All too often in politics, things come down to a sense of victimhood and grievance and resentment, and that’s exactly what she’d played into.”

Even the company that manufactures Ambien was dunking on Barr on Twitter.

Jamilah Lemieux said ABC didn’t exactly have much of a choice here in how to respond, though it does beg the question: “Who exactly were you going after when you decided to give this person a platform now?”

As far as the Ambien excuse is concerned, Lemieux said if that’s the case it can’t just be an isolated incident:

“I would hope that she has the character to feel bad for her colleagues… You can’t attribute something like this to Ambien. Have you been on Ambien for the past 15, 20 years? This isn’t new behavior for her.”

She also brought up the photoshootu Barr did a few years ago for a satirical Jewish publication where she dressed like Hitler and held up cookies shaped like people by an oven.
