CNN’s Bakari Sellers: John McCain ‘Deserves Better’ Than Lindsey Graham Kowtowing to Trump

CNN commentator Bakari Sellers called out Sen. Lindsey Graham on State of the Union Sunday, asking how the South Carolina Republican can revere John McCain yet “kowtow” to President Donald Trump.

Sellers first lauded Meghan McCain, who delivered a powerful eulogy for her father at his memorial service. “I think that yesterday birthed a new star,” he said. “I can’t even imagine having the courage or strength to do what she did.”

He continued that the memorial service — which included tributes to the late Republican senator by former Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama — was a reminder “of a Republican Party that once was.”

“My question to people like Lindsey Graham… is how do you admire and hold in reverence a man like John McCain but then kowtow to someone like Donald Trump?” Sellers asked. “I think John McCain deserves better.”

Sellers isn’t the only commentator calling out Graham, who was McCain’s best friend in the Senate. Washington Post columnist Dana Milbank wrote a brutal piece on Friday with the headline: “Rest in peace, Lindsey Graham”.

Tearing apart Graham’s Tuesday appearance on Fox & Friends, in which he echoed Trump’s rhetoric on the Russia investigation, Milbank wrote of the South Carolina senator: “No longer protected by McCain, he seems to have lost that famous McCain courage.”
