CNN’s Banfield: My Black Coworkers Get Stopped by Police on Way to Work

During a discussion about race relations with Congressman Charlie Rangel (D-NY), CNN host Ashleigh Banfield lamented how her black colleagues are often stopped by police officers when they are walking to work in the middle of the night.

Banfield and Rangel were discussing the growing tensions between Mayor Bill de Blasio and the NYPD following the execution-style murders of two officers over the weekend when she made the off-the-cuff revelation:

“I’ve got coworkers who try to come to work in the middle of the night and they’re black and they get stopped. And they get asked where they’re going and what they’re doing, regularly. I hear from my black coworkers who are just coming to CNN. They wear their CNN badges on the streets of New York. So there’s pain and suffering out there.”
