Three weeks after hiring former Donald Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski as a commentator, CNN has begun to inform viewers that Lewandowski still receives cash from the Trump campaign in the form of severance payments.
Media Matters notes that in two recent appearances on the network, hosts for the first time disclosed Lewandowski’s continuing financial ties. Most recently, Lewandowski was introduced Tuesday on CNN Tonight as “former Donald Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski, who is still receiving severance from the Trump campaign.”
Lewandowski’s hiring was controversial for several reasons, not least of which was his history of abuse towards female coworkers and reporters. Since joining CNN (and despite his firing) Lewandowski has been a stalwart defender of his former boss. Indeed, judging by some reports, Lewandowski may be legally barred from discussing his time with the Trump campaign or even criticizing his former boss.
