State of the Union host Candy Crowley pressed Missouri Governor Jay Nixon (D) Sunday morning as to whether he had confidence in St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney Robert McCulloch, whom many in the Ferguson community want replaced, fearing his many familial connections to law enforcement could taint his ability to prosecute officer Darren Wilson for the shooting death of Michael Brown.

Nixon has vowed not to replace McCulloch. However, Crowley struggled to get Nixon to outright voice confidence in the prosecutor on her show. Nixon noted that McCulloch was “democratically elected,” and then said, “I am confident that, with the dual investigations, that ultimately justice will be served here. …I am hopeful that everyone is going to live up to those duties and do a good job moving forward.”

“I can’t get to you say you’re absolutely confident Robert McCulloch can do that?” Crowley said.

“I think clearly he has the experience, he has the office, that people here have elected him and you know, you don’t want to prejudge any

of this,” Nixon said. “I do know everybody’s working hard. I think the Justice Department being involved, local prosecutor being involved, the investigators being involved, there’s a lot of folks working on the street out there to make sure they get this one right. I think that, with that attention, I think that they will move this case forward.”

YMMV as to whether that’s an endorsement of McCulloch or not. According to her Twitter account, Crowley thinks she got her man:
