CNN’s David Gergen: ‘This May Go Down in History as One of the Most Incompetent Cover-Ups’

CNN’s David Gergen said on AC360 tonight that, with more information coming out this week about Donald Trump Jr.‘s meeting with a Russian lawyer, this may end up going down in history as “one of the most incompetent cover-ups.”

Anderson Cooper asked Gergen about his personal insight into what it’s like behind the scenes of a White House “in crisis.” Gergen said that “it can be shattering,” pointing out that most of the people serving in the Trump administration are “honest individuals” with an earnest desire to serve their country.

But, he added, they’re being sucked into this Russia “vortex” too.

Gergen criticized the “dishonest, misleading statements” on the matter and even went so far as to say, “This may go down in history as one of the most incompetent cover-ups we have ever had.”

When Cooper asked him if he really believes that, Gergen elaborated before concluding with this:

“All I’m saying is, in this particular instance there was a clear attempt at a cover-up. It was incompetently done… I’m startled by the whole thing.”
