CNN’s Don Lemon Calls Out Trump’s Washington for Being Swampier Than Ever

CNN’s Don Lemon opened up his Wednesday show by calling out President Donald Trump for “building all over” the swamp instead of draining it.

In his opening monologue, Lemon noted that Rep. Chris Collins (R-NY) had been indicted earlier in the day — an unusual move for an election year — but one the U.S. Attorney in New York noted was because “Collins acted as if laws, well, they just didn’t apply to him.”

Then, after playing clips of Collins stumping for Trump — with a CNN chyron underneath reading “Donald Trump’s Washington is Swampier Than Ever” to stress his point — Lemon added: “This vocal Trump supporter now stands accused of some really swampy behavior.”

The CNN host next played a clip of Trump on the campaign trail promising to “drain the damn swamp.”

“Not only has that swamp not been drained, this administration is building all over it,” Lemon said after clapping at the end of Trump clips. “Now, I know that Chris Collins is a Congressman and a Trump supporter and he’s not a member of this administration, but Trump told us he was going to build his administration out of the very best people. It hasn’t exactly turned out that way.”

To make his case, Lemon listed members of Trump’s administration — past and present — who found have found themselves embroiled in scandal including former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn, former United States Secretary of Health and Human Services Tom Price, Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross, as well as past Trump campaign team members including Paul Manafort and Rick Gates.

“Mr. Paul Manafort is as we speak on trial in Virginia,” Lemon said. “The star witness against him another Trump campaign official, former campaign official, who went on to serve inside the White House. That’s Rick Gates. What was that line again?”

Lemon finally played clips of Trump promising to get the “best people” in Washington.

“Best people… drain the swamp,” Lemon repeated, emphasizing Trump’s words.
