CNN’s Don Lemon: Despite Trump Claim, ‘ISIS Has Not Been Defeated, and the Pentagon Brass Knows It’

On Wednesday night, CNN’s Don Lemon called President Donald Trump out for walking back — albeit slightly — from his earlier claim that ISIS had been defeated.

He also said that the Pentagon brass “know” that talk of ISIS’s defeat is simply not true.

On December 19, Trump declared victory over ISIS in a tweet, writing: “We have defeated ISIS in Syria, my only reason for being there during the Trump Presidency.”

Just one day after Christmas, however, Trump was saying something slightly different, telling troops in Iraq that ISIS was nearly defeated.

“So President Trump also claiming falsely last week that ISIS had been defeated. Remember that? Well, today he walked back those comments, slightly, saying ISIS is very nearly defeated,” Lemon said.

Then, after playing a clip of Trump saying, “We’ve knocked them out. We’ve knocked them silly,” Lemon continued on.

“But he’s also suggesting Iraq could be used as a base for potential future missions against ISIS in Syria,” Lemon stressed. “So ISIS has not been defeated, and the Pentagon brass knows it.”

Moving on,  Lemon then called the government shutdown back at home chaos largely of Trump’s own making.
