CNN’s Focus Group of Trump Voters Clashes Over Trump-Putin Summit: ‘He Threw America Under the Bus’
CNN aired round two of its panel of Trump voters — split down the middle with three who still support the president and three who regret their 2016 vote — and this time, the topic was a hot one: Russia.
CNN host Alisyn Camerota led off with Trump’s “performance” in Helsinki at his summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The three Trump supporters said they were comfortable with the widely panned display from the U.S. president, and proceeded to clash with the dissenters.
Jeremy Montanez said he was bothered by Trump being “a suck-up to Vladimir Putin, because obviously that country has something on him.”
Damani Bryant Felder, a Trump supporter, pointed out that given how prolifically leaky the administration is, if the Russians had something on Trump we would know by now.
Christopher J. Gagin, who revealed he was the Republican Party chairman from Ohio who resigned after the Helsinki summit, pointed out that Trump defended Putin’s denials of Russian meddling in the 2016 election. Felder argued that he believed Trump’s perhaps “milquetoast” retraction of his statements at the Helsinki summit.
“He threw America under the bus,” Montanez said. “He is singlehandedly weakening our alliances overseas,” Gagin added.
When Trump supporter Bianca Gracia countered by declaring Trump had “denuclearized North Korea,” the panel descended into chaos.
