CNN’s Gloria Borger on WH Clearance Threat: ‘The President Wants to Silence His Critics. Period.’
Gloria Borger was not impressed on Monday when she offered her first reaction to the news that the White House is trying to pull security clearance away from intelligence figures who have spoken critically about President Trump.
The CNN chief political analyst spoke to Brooke Baldwin today as part of a panel on the Trump Administration’s ongoing effort to discredit the Robert Mueller investigation into Russia. When Borger was asked how Sarah Huckabee Sanders‘ announcement will fit into this endeavor, she cut to the heart of the issue and said “the president wants to silence his critics. Period.”
“It’s just petty, small, authoritarian, and – I would argue – counterproductive to the gathering of intelligence in this country,” Borger said. “I just think the precedent is sort of stunning and petty, small, and [it] doesn’t speak well for a President of the United States who is supposed to be able to handle his critics, because when you become president, you inevitably have them.”
