CNN’s Jake Tapper After Santa Fe School Shooting: ‘Ask Yourself, Are We Failing Our Children?’

There has been yet another school shooting in America, this time at Santa Fe High School in Texas.

Addressing the scourge of shootings on The Lead on Friday, CNN’s Jake Tapper read through a list of deadly attacks on our nation’s campuses, from the horrific shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida that left 17 dead to other recent tragedies, such as the one at Huffman High School that received considerably less media coverage.

He then ended with the Santa Fe attack which is so fresh, that the final death toll did not flash on the screen.

Tapper then replayed a tape of a Santa Fe student speaking to the media after the shooting at her school that left 10 dead and others injured.

“It’s been happening everywhere,” the girl said, looking down and clearly shaken. “I’ve always kind of felt like eventually it was going to happen here too.”

The CNN host then offered his commentary, calling on America to do better for the nation’s kids: “That is a statement that would not have been made when I was a kid. Ask yourself, are we failing our children?”
