There was one moment during Secretary of State Hillary Clinton‘s Benghazi testimony today that stood out to CNN’s newest anchor Jake Tapper, and it came during her heated exchange with Senator Ron Johnson (R-WI).
Anderson Cooper asked Tapper tonight, “Where do you think this leaves Secretary Clinton in terms of her legacy? Does it have an impact on any career she may have in 2016 in terms of running for president?”
“I think that the quote of hers that you just played,” Tapper responded, “‘What difference does it make at this point?’ is ready for a campaign commercial.” He suggested that it could be used by a Democrat like Vice President Joe Biden or a Republican like New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, but that either way we could be seeing that moment again during the next presidential campaign.
Tapper continued, “I think that will be used against her and certainly it comes across as more glib than I think — if she could go back and revise and extend those remarks she would have.”
Today’s hearings were certainly some of Clinton’s most high-profile public appearances from her tenure as Secretary of State and were fraught with implications for her potential 2016 presidential run.
