CNN’s Jeff Lord tonight defended President Trump‘s tweets to the mayor of London by suggesting they’re “Churchillian.”
He told Anderson Cooper that Mayor Sadiq Khan is basically Neville Chamberlain and that Trump “in his own fashion––not consciously being Churchillian––is basically saying ‘You guys have gotta toughen up here.'”
Cooper asked in response, “Did Churchill misquote people?”
He pointed out that Trump took Mayor Khan’s quote––which was about increased police presence––out of context when he attacked him for saying people shouldn’t be alarmed.
The argument took a turn when Cooper asked Lord if he would have been okay with a foreign prime minister attacking Rudy Giuliani after 9/11. At one point when Cooper asked him if he thinks Giuliani was to blame for 9/11, Lord did not directly answer that question but said “the buck stops here.”
