CNN’s Jeff Zucker Jabs Fox: ‘Further Out of the News Business than We Are’

zuckerCNN president Jeff Zucker is doing a victory lap after the network has seen ratings gains in primetime and in the morning. And he’s got some zingers for his rivals.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Zucker brags about how New Day has been making gains on Morning Joe (still behind, but not significantly so). In fact, there’s been a bit of a sniping match between the two networks over their morning shows.

Regarding Joe Scarborough himself, Zucker thinks it’s a mistake to be touting a show as being one loved by “influencers,” because “if that’s what you’re talking about, it’s probably about time to start getting your résumé ready.”

And then last year, Fox News head honcho Roger Ailes jabbed at CNN, saying, “For CNN to also throw in the towel and announce they’re out of the news business is quite interesting.”

Well, Zucker literally laughed at that assessment, insisted CNN’s “doing more news than anybody else,” and jabbed at Fox for “copying” CNN with its new docu-series Legends & Lies.

“The fact is,” Zucker said, “they’ve gone further out of the news business than we have.”
