CNN’s Jessica Schneider: White House Expects to See Mueller’s Report Before Congress

As questions continue to swirl over when Robert Mueller will release his investigative findings, CNN’s Jessica Schneider said the White House expects to see the special counsel’s report before Congress.

Schneider was on New Day on Tuesday to report that White House attorneys want to claim executive privilege for the parts of Mueller’s findings that are based on information from Trump Administration documents and interviews with officials. She noted that this will likely spark a political battle when Democrats demand that the Mueller report be released in full.

“While the president is within his legal authority to exert that executive privilege to shield those communications with officials, Democrats will likely allege the president is just trying to shield information from the public into that investigation that has consumed the first two years of his presidency. One source close to the White House putting it this way, there has always been this tension between what looks best politically and what best represents the interests of the institution, but overall, preserving executive privilege does trump political optics.”
