CNN’s Collins Clashes With Trump Over Mexico Funding Wall: ‘You Didn’t Answer!’

CNN White House reporter Kaitlan Collins came out guns blazing with her question for President Donald Trump at his Rose Garden press conference on the government shutdown, leading to a passive-aggressive clash between the two.

Collins started: “You ran your campaign promising supporters that Mexico is going to pay for the wall.”

“Oh here we go,” Trump said, rolling his eyes.

“…And that the wall was going to be made of concrete,” she continued. “You just said earlier that the wall could be made of steel, and right now our government is shut down over a demand from your administration that the American taxpayer pay for the wall. So how can you say that you’re not failing on that promise to your supporters?”

“A very nice question, so beautifully asked — even though I just answered it,” Trump replied.

“You didn’t answer it!” protested Collins.

Trump argued that the wall will be funded from savings made off his USMCA trade deal with Mexico (though it’s unclear who this is going to work). Trump also denied that he ever said the wall would be made of concrete, though Collins shot back: “You’ve said concrete.”

“I know you’re not into the construction business,” Trump said to Collins. “Steel is stronger than concrete.”

Before Collins could ask a second question, the mic was yanked from her hand.
