CNN’s Max Boot: Asking Saudis to Investigate Themselves is Like Asking Trump Jr. to Conduct Russia Probe
During a conversation with CNN’s Ana Cabrera on Wednesday, author, Washington Post columnist, and CNN analyst Max Boot cast doubt on the plan, pushed by Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, to give Saudi Arabia more time to investigate the fate of Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi.
When asked by Cabrera about the U.S.’s plan to give the Saudis “more time to investigate themselves, Boot said this: “It’s going to be a long wait if they’re looking for a serious investigation.”
He added: “Asking the Saudis to investigate Jamal Khashoggi’s murder is kind of like asking Donald Trump Jr. to investigate the ties between the Trump campaign and the Russians.”
Cabrera then asked if it is possible the Saudis will “essentially pick a fall guy” and paint him as a rogue actor.
“That seems like the most likely scenario,” Boot replied. “They’re going to look for somebody to take the fall. It’s disturbing when The Washington Post is reporting that the Trump Administration seems to be colluding with the Saudis in trying to come up with a cover story for this murder instead of trying to get at the truth.”
