CNN’s New Day Attacks Trump’s Lies, Fear-Mongering Ahead of Midterms: ‘No Rooting in Reality’
On Tuesday, CNN’s New Day reached a consensus that President Trump has decided to go all in with his factually-challenged scare tactics ahead of the midterm elections.
Throughout the morning, Alisyn Camerota and John Berman held numerous conversations on how Trump is using “fear-mongering and falsehoods” to drive up support for Republicans ahead of the midterm.
As they reviewed Trump’s rally in Houston last night alongside their guests, they found the presidents’ claims “outlandish” and indicative that he’d rather push his fear-based immigration narrative than focus on his accomplishments or other key voter issues.
“He is essentially reverting to what he did in 2016 because it worked,” said Senior White House correspondent Jeff Zeleny. “With all of the sort of noise in the air and chaos in the air, nothing is breaking through like immigration does.”
As Camerota continued to call Trump’s rhetoric increasingly “brazen” and “unhinged,” she eventually spoke to New York Times reporter and asked for her thoughts on how the president’s comments “have no rooting in reality.”
Haberman didn’t think that Trump is losing his grip on reality, but said his comments were “insane” and “we are seeing what we saw with him in 2016, he will keep saying what he can get away with for as long as he can get away with it.”
