The White House press shop found itself in hot water this week after it was reported Trump’s legal team is claiming the president dictated Don Jr.‘s statement on his infamous Trump Tower meeting last year.
That news comes despite both Trump lawyer Jay Sekulow and Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders claiming previously that Trump had no part in Don Jr.’s statement, which stated the meeting with Russians was to discuss adoption policy.
CNN’s Alisyn Camerota first called out Sanders for making “a false statement from the podium,” playing a clip of the press secretary refusing to answer questions on the discrepancy on Monday.
Joe Lockhart, former press secretary for Bill Clinton, put it starkly: “She doesn’t have any usefulness now.”
“She either can’t trust the president and her colleagues or she can’t tell the truth,” he added. “There’s no way forward here for her.”
“Maybe she’s ok with lying?” CNN’s John Berman proposed. “There’s no question that she spread lies at this point.”
Lockhart added that he would “absolutely” resign if he were Sanders.
