CNN’s Paul Begala: VP Candidates ‘About As Nervous As A Hooker In Church’

During CNN’s coverage leading up to tonight’s vice presidential debate, analyst Paul Begala used a… colorful… analogy to explain how nervous the two VP candidates must be before their debate performance.

Anchor Wolf Blitzer asked the former adviser to Bill Clinton to explain, based on experience, how nervous the candidates likely are while preparing backstage for the debate.

“About as nervous as a hooker in church,” Begala joked while the rest of the panel giggled or gasped. “This is a high-stress moment,” he explained.

“I don’t know what that means. Do hookers get nervous in church?” co-anchor Anderson Cooper asked.

“I’ve been going to the wrong church,” co-panelist Alex Castellanos added.

“Nervous as a porcupine in a balloon factory,” Begala said, changing up his analogy for a more family-friendly version.

“Wow, okay,” a befuddled Cooper said before moving on to the next subject.
