CNN’s Sanjay Gupta: WH Doc’s ‘Hyperbolic Tone’ in Briefing Bodes Poorly For Him As VA Secretary
CNN Chief Medical Correspondent Dr. Sanjay Gupta is less than impressed with President Donald Trump’s choice of White House physician Dr. Ronny Jackson for V.A. secretary.
Gupta told New Day‘s Chris Cuomo and Alisyn Camerota that Jackson’s lack of managerial experience makes him a potentially poor choice for the position.
“Ronny Jackson has medical experience, clearly. He has military experience, clearly. He’s supporting and loyal to the president. But this is a large organization,” Gupta explained. “I don’t think that he has any experience in actually running a big organization like that. We don’t know where he stands on some of the biggest issues that are confronting the VA right now.”
Gupta also referenced the now-semi-legendary press briefing that Jackson gave about Trump’s health as a sign that Jackson may be someone who is willing to bend the truth.
“The more hyperbolic tone [of that briefing], I was really struck by it,” Gupta said. “The problem is when you’re talking about facts and data and science and, in this case, the president’s health, suggesting that, ‘look, could he live to 200 years? Who’s to say?’ You know, I put my hand up and said, ‘I’ll say he’s not going to live to 200 years.’”
