CNN’s Stelter Slams Fox for Spreading Unconfirmed Report about Officer’s Injury

Reliable Sources host Brian Stelter took Sean Hannity and the rest of the Fox News bench to the woodshed Sunday morning over the claim, later refuted by CNN, that Officer Darren Wilson had a fractured eye socket as a result of a struggle with Michael Brown.

The claim, which would seem to make Brown the aggressor and change the dynamic of the shooting, originated from the Gateway Pundit, a conservative blogger, who quoted anonymous sources. Stelter sharply criticized Fox for running with the information.

“Frankly I’m surprised that Fox ripped the information off this blog and repeated it on air,” Stelter said. “Later in the day Fox did find its own anonymous source and published its own story, and every one of Fox’s primetime hosts picked up on it.”

“All day on Thursday, CNN reporters in Ferguson tried to confirm what Fox had claimed over and over again, but instead a source unequivocally refuted it,” Stelter said. “I have yet to see any evidence of an eye socket injury. But that does not seem to matter, because these claims have spread all over the place, sewing doubt in people’s minds about what happened that day in Ferguson.”
