CNN’s Tapper on Dem Debates: ‘They’re Trying to Have a Small Audience’
As a CNN panel discussed the spat between the DNC and the Bernie Sanders campaign over a breach of voter data, Jake Tapper said that while this one’s on the Sanders campaign, they do have some legitimate gripes with the DNC.
He pointed out that the DNC has limited the number of debates “and they’ve been scheduled on Saturday nights, when viewership is the smallest.” The next Democratic debate is tomorrow, Saturday night.
And while the DNC has argued they’re limiting debates so voters get a chance to see the candidates in various different forums, Tapper said, “It is what it is. They’re trying to have a small audience.
When Wolf Blitzer brought up the accusation that they’re deliberately doing that to help Hillary Clinton, Tapper said, “There’s no other reason to do it.”
The problem with that is, he added, that it gives her rivals fair ground to complain, and it underestimates Clinton’s skill as a debater.
