CNN’s Toobin: ‘Maybe This Country Is a Lot More Racist and Sexist Than We Thought’

CNN’s Jeffrey Toobin offered a pessimistic take after President Donald Trump‘s press conference today in which he addressed the “false accusations” against Brett Kavanaugh.

“In Donald Trump’s world,” Toobin said tonight, “in the relation between the sexes, it is always 1957 and he’s the head of the Rat Pack. That’s how he sees relations between men and women.”

He also called out some of the more Trump-critical Republican senators, like Jeff Flake, calling them “political cowards” who won’t actually “defy [Trump] on this.

As the panel continued to break down Trump’s press conference and his comments about the allegations against Kavanaugh, CNN senior political reporter Nia-Malika Henderson noted how Trump is angling for the “adoration” of his base, at which point Toobin offered this take:

“Maybe the base is much of the United States. Maybe this country is a lot more racist and sexist than we thought. Maybe a lot of people find this allegation preposterous… Who won the election? The guy from the Access Hollywood tape won the election.”
