CNN’s Toobin on Judge Dismissing Stormy Daniels Defamation Lawsuit: ‘Big Win for the President’
CNN’s Jeffrey Toobin tonight called the dismissal of Stormy Daniels‘ defamation lawsuit against President Donald Trump “a big win for the President and his lawyers, [and a] big loss for Stormy Daniels… and her lawyer Michael Avenatti.”
The suit was filed in response to this tweet:
A sketch years later about a nonexistent man. A total con job, playing the Fake News Media for Fools (but they know it)! https://t.co/9Is7mHBFda
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) April 18, 2018
Toobin told Wolf Blitzer that this is far from the end of the overall legal battle between Daniels and Trump, but today is a “complete win for the President.”
And the grant of attorney’s fees is just “a particular slap in the face towards Stormy Daniels and Mr. Avenatti,” he added.
Avenatti responded to the decision on Twitter tonight:
Re Judge’s limited ruling: Daniels’ other claims against Trump and Cohen proceed unaffected. Trump’s contrary claims are as deceptive as his claims about the inauguration attendance.
We will appeal the dismissal of the defamation cause of action and are confident in a reversal.
