CNN’s Toobin on Tidbit from Trump Book: ‘When Ann Coulter is the Voice of Reason, Wow!’
The revelations have come fast and furious on Wednesday from the two excerpts of Fire and Fury — Michael Wolff‘s explosive new book on President Trump‘s White House — which were published by The Guardian and New York.
Lost in the shuffle, possibly, was a claim that Trump was preparing to hire his son-in-law, Jared Kushner, to be his Chief of Staff. And conservative commentator Ann Coulter talked Trump out of the move.
“Nobody is apparently telling you this,” Coulter told Trump, per New York. “But you can’t. You just can’t hire your children.”
This anecdote was not overlooked by CNN’s Jeffrey Toobin. Appearing as part of a panel moderated by Brooke Baldwin, Toobin called attention to Coulter serving as a voice of moderation in a seemingly chaotic West Wing.
“When Ann Coulter is the voice of reason, wow!” Toobin said. “Wow! That’s all I can say.”
The CNN legal analyst added, “She’s right, too.”
Earlier in the segment, Toobin focused not just on Kushner, but the issue of nepotism as a whole in the Trump White House.
“Nepotism is a problem even for qualified members of the family,” Toobin said. “And this incredibly poisonous relationship between Bannon and the Trump relatives is obviously a lot of what’s driving this bitterness here.”
