CNN’s Zakaria Hopes There Was ‘Actually Some Thought Behind’ Trump Taiwan Call
CNN’s Fareed Zakaria tonight expressed hope that whatever reason Donald Trump had for taking a call with China, there was some good reasoning behind it.
“If we are changing policy,” he told Anderson Cooper, “this will be one of the largest shifts in American foreign policy in decades. And you hope it would have been thought through.”

Zakaria said Trump certainly wouldn’t be the first president of the last 50 years to make “overtures” to Taiwan, but in the case of Ronald Reagan, he noted, they were “thought through and calculated.”
“It’s not that you shouldn’t do it,” he concluded. “It’s just, let’s hope there is actually some thought behind this.”
