During a Wednesday morning appearance on Fox & Friends, Oklahoma Senator Tom Coburn addressed exactly why he referred to his colleague Harry Reid as an “absolute asshole.” Coburn didn’t defend what he said, but he didn’t exactly apologize for it either.
Elisabeth Hasselbeck asked Coburn, “What is it about Harry Reid that makes you so uncomfortable?”
Coburn said that under Reid’s leadership, the Senate is “not doing what it’s supposed to do,” and acknowledged he was in the wrong… but not completely in the wrong.
“My words were inappropriate, but my frustrations are real. Our Founders designed the Senate to force consensus, and you can’t force consensus if you don’t allow amendments and you don’t allow people voices to be heard.”
Coburn is certainly not the first Republican to lose his cool with Reid, as John Boehner had reportedly told him during last winter’s fiscal cliff negotiations “Go fu*k yourself.’
