Last night, with mere minutes to go before the government shutdown, Stephen Colbert shared his take on the situation in the form of a gritty television drama called “Breaking Gov.” Ahead of the big “finale,” Colbert described a U.S. government that “started out as a highly sympathetic character in the 1770s, but in just 237 seasons, has transformed into an egotistical, self-destructive maniac.”
With Congress working down to the wire, Colbert could not wait to find out what would happen to all of the many “Mr. Whites.” He giddily anticipated all of the villains who would no doubt be eliminated from the national parks to NASA.
And while the shutdown hadn’t actually started yet when The Colbert Report aired, the host shared some advance reviews from the popular website “Republican Tomatoes.” Noted critic Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) said, “We’re very excited. It’s exactly what we wanted and we got it.”
