Colbert Cold Open Mocks Trump’s Fear of Complicated Planes: ‘No Einsteins Here!’
Donald Trump‘s fear of “complex” airplanes was mocked all day, but that was just a warmup for The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, who lampooned the technophobe-in-chief by granting his wish for simpler forms of air travel.
The cold-open for Tuesday night’s edition of CBS’ The Late Show with Stephen Colbert featured a dramatic reading of Trump’s tweet, “Airplanes are becoming far too complex to fly… I see it all the time in many products… I don’t know about you, but I don’t want Albert Einstein to be my pilot.”
The clip then cuts to silent footage of those old-timey flying contraptions that were used as sight gags in Airplane!, as an announcer says “Here’s President Trump on the tarmac preparing for his trip abroad. He’s declared air travel as too complicated, which is why he’ll be flying in the newly designed Air Force One.
“No Einsteins here, it’s back to basics!” the announcer says, as the pilot of the bicycle-plane crashes and catches fire.
