Colbert Defends Christine Ford From ‘Numbnuts’ Trump: ‘Trauma Survivors Don’t Remember Every Detail’
On Wednesday night, Stephen Colbert tore into President Donald Trump of remarks he made at a rally this week about the testimony of Dr. Christine Blasey Ford.
Colbert began by saying Trump “couldn’t resist his desire’ to whip out his ‘mocking impersonation’ of Ford, saying all she remembered was that she had “one beer” and not knowing anything else.
“Listen Donnie, trauma survivors don’t always remember every detail,” Colbert told the president. “For instance, on election night, I don’t remember what color tie I was wearing. I just remember trying to tighten it until the blood stopped flowing to my brain.”
The Late Show host then accused Trump of “lying” for saying she doesn’t remember anything else about the alleged assault, playing a montage of various portions of her testimony, including a part where she offered to “sketch a floor plan” of the house where it took place.
“Dr. Ford, you may need to sketch a floor plan because numbnuts here only learns in pictures,” Colbert said.
Colbert also tackled the “narrative” that the Kavanaugh allegations are setting a precedent that innocent men could be wrongfully accused of sexual misconduct and face consequences without due process, something Trump touched upon at his rally.
“Bravo!” Colbert slow clapped. “What a performance.”
He then went on to give a dramatic performance of his own as someone wrongfully accuse of such a crime.
