Colbert Demolishes Fox’s Keith Ablow: How Does He Pull Ideas ‘So Smoothly From His Ass?’

For those who’ve read our inaugural “This Week in Buffoonery” column, you’re well aware that Fox’s resident “psychiatric expert” Keith Ablow spent a whole Fox & Friends segment last week diagnosing the president’s “grandma issues” as the reason for his love of Big Government entitlement programs. The whole thing was, shall we say, buffoonish. And Stephen Colbert returned from vacation Monday night to rip into the well-known TV shrink.

After applauding the end of the government shutdown and noting that Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) called it a “remarkable victory” for conservatives, Colbert sarcastically pointed out that some Fox commentators still want to assign blame despite such “success.”

His example? “Fox News resident psychiatrist and Freudian phallic symbol, Dr. Keith Ablow, knows exactly who caused this victorious train wreck,” the host said before cutting to the highlights from last week’s “abandonment issues” segment.

“Yes, Obama’s refusal to negotiate with Congress was just him getting back at his parents,” Colbert mockingly agreed before absolutely ripping into the Fox expert:

“That was a brilliant long-distance diagnosis by Dr. Keith Ablow, but one must ask: How was he able to yank such an insightful diagnosis so smoothly from his ass? I, for one, have never met Keith Ablow, but as an honorary doctor of fine arts, I am willing to stake my professional reputation that he is stuck in an anal retentive stage caused by his parents shaming him during potty time. So it’s safe to assume that Dr. Ablow continues to wear a diaper and, as we speak, is using his own excrement to write out his ideas for tomorrow’s show.”

Ouch.
