Colbert Goes Back in Time to Cover Nixon’s Resignation

This week marks the 40th anniversary of President Richard Nixon’s post-Watergate resignation, which meant Stephen Colbert spent most of his show reporting from within the confines of an old-timey 1970s television set.

Comically smoking multiple cigarettes as he recalled the details of the Watergate scandal, Colbert displayed his usually satirical style, but with a retro bent. For an example of how Nixon recorded every conversation he had in the Oval Office, Colbert played a snippet of Nixon’s instantly-infamous panda sex analysis. “Yes, for pandas to mate they have to watch other pandas doing it,” Colbert said. “Although for male pandas, it’s just as effective to watch two female pandas mating.”

This is as close to Ron Burgundy as Stephen Colbert is ever going to get.
