Colbert Helps Trump U Grads Celebrate Lawsuit Settlement With a Commencement Address
Stephen Colbert knows that everyone is still talking about the Mike Pence–Hamilton incident, but he took some time last night to address the news that President-elect Donald Trump settled the lawsuit he was facing over Trump University.
The lawsuit hounded Trump throughout the 2016 election, during which the mogul was accused of running a fraudulent program that took tuition from students without teaching them any substantial business curriculum. Recently, Trump insisted that he could’ve won the case if he wanted to proceed with it, but he decide to settle in order to focus on his incoming presidency.
Now that the Trump U lawsuit is settled to the tune of $25 million, Colbert thought on Monday that now was as good a time as any for them to get a commencement address befitting their education.
“As you leave these hallowed hotel ballrooms to start your lives, and then restart your educations at an actual school, you will be entering a troubled world,” Colbert said. “Donald Trump is going to be President. But you are uniquely poised to take on that challenge because real-world experience is the best teacher, and you’ve been conned by a master.”
Colbert also offered some last minute advice: “Never take business advice from a man who can’t sell vodka or steaks.”
