Colbert Hits Media For Dismissing Omarosa as ‘Unreliable’: You Can’t ‘Report’ and ‘Roll Your Eyes’ at Once!
Stephen Colbert took a moment during their monologue to call out the media over their coverage of former White House staffer Omarosa Manigault Newman and her media blitz promoting her book.
Colbert began by mocking Omarosa for her recent realization that her former boss President Donald Trump is a “racist” after supposedly hearing him say the N-word on tape.
“This is huge…” Colbert sarcastically reacted. “Finally, we have proof that the guy who refused to rent to black tenants, said that a Nazi Klan rally had some fine people and called Africa a sh*thole… is a racist… We didn’t know!”
Later on, The Late Show host played several clips featuring political pundits weighing in on Omarosa, including CNN’s Brian Stelter calling her a “liar, backstabber, and self promoter” and New York Times columnist Bret Stephens insisting that “if anyone has less credibility than Donald Trump, it’s actually probably Omarosa.” She was also called “unreliable,” “the villain,” “not a serious person,” and someone with “no credibility.”
“Yes, she’s a liar and a backstabber with no credibility… exactly like everyone else in the Trump administration,” Colbert reacted. “So don’t roll your eyes!”
“The press can’t have it both ways!” Colbert continued. “They can’t report on it and roll their eyes at the same time, okay? She’s not below anyone else in the White House. She and General Kelly may have completely different paths, but they have exactly the same future. You can never scrub off the Trump stank.”
