Colbert Mocks CNN’s Retracted Story: ‘They Forgot to Call it “Breaking News” and Have a Countdown Clock’

On Tuesday night, Stephen Colbert had some fun at the expense of CNN for their retracted story regarding Trump ally Anthony Scaramucci.

The Late Show host called the retraction CNN’s “biggest mistake” since their failed spinoff “Wolf Blitzer’s Rockin’ Situation Garage.”

Colbert pointed out that the reason why the story was pulled wasn’t that the facts were necessarily wrong but because “standard editorial processes were not followed.”

“Yes, it’s a fine story,” he reacted. “They just forgot to call it ‘Breaking News’ and have a countdown clock.”

He then went on to assume that things were “settled” because three CNN employees resigned and Scaramucci accepted the network’s apology and said he was “moving on.”

“Guess who’s not moving on,” Colbert responded. “The Tweetster-in-Chief.”

Of course he meant President Trump and referred to his recent tweets attacking CNN.

Colbert did concede that CNN does have some phony stories. “I watched Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown and I did not see any parts of his body that I didn’t already know,” he joked.
