Colbert Mocks Trump’s 4th of July Plans by Announcing Special Event on December 31st
Recently President Donald Trump recently announced plans for a “Salute to America” on July 4th.
HOLD THE DATE! We will be having one of the biggest gatherings in the history of Washington, D.C., on July 4th. It will be called “A Salute To America” and will be held at the Lincoln Memorial. Major fireworks display, entertainment and an address by your favorite President, me!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) February 24, 2019
Trump also talked about the plans for the event at CPAC last week.
Stephen Colbert mocked the announcement and said, as Trump, “I’ve decided Washington is going to have a party on the 4th of July. There will be big parades with floats using a new invention of mine––wheels.”
Colbert said the only difference between normal 4th of July plans in D.C. and Trump’s idea is “now we have to listen to you give a speech.”
And so he decided to announce plans for a big event on December 31st to take place in Times Square: “A Salute to Time.”
