Colbert on Closed-Door Health Care Talks: They ‘Put a Sock on the Doorknob’ While ‘Screwing Poor People’
On Wednesday night, Stephen Colbert took on Senate Republicans for their handling of health care reform.
The Late Show host noted that there is a “frantic scramble” to make their own July 4 deadline to gut Obamacare.
“If you’re going to blow your fingers off with fireworks, do it on the third,” Colbert advised his audience.
He mentioned how the negotiations in the drafting of the health care bill have been behind closed doors.
“They even put a sock on the doorknob,” Colbert said, “so no one barges in while they’re screwing poor people.”
He then mocked Democrats for vowing to slow work in the Senate to a crawl in order to protest the secrecy.
“Yes a crawl, down from its current speed of Toddler on Benadryl,” he reacted.
Colbert went on to say that Republicans are becoming so “desperate” to pass anything that they’re considering canceling their August recess to push their agenda.
“That’s too bad. No recess,” he said. “Recess is when they get to play their favorite game: Dodgevoter.”
