Stephen Colbert took a few moments at the beginning of his show on Tuesday night to address the Boston Marathon bombing. Touting Boston’s resilience, Colbert chronicled the city’s record of toughness and recovery, noting that the cowardly attackers clearly did not know who they were dealing with.
“Whoever did this obviously did not know shit about the people of Boston,” Colbert asserted. “Because nothing these terrorists do is going to shake them. For Pete’s sake, Boston was founded by the Pilgrims!”
Boston is “the cradle of the American revolution,” the city that withstood the Red Sox’s losing streak.
“But here’s what these cowards really don’t get,” Colbert explained. “They attacked the Boston Marathon — an event celebrating people who run 26 miles on their day off, until their nipples are raw, for fun. […] And when those bombs went off, there were runners who, after finishing a marathon, kept running for another two miles to the hospital to donate blood.”
All these “maniacs” can do is “show just how good those people are.”
