Colbert Performs Magic to Help Him Remind Penn Jillette What Trump Said: ‘Is This Your Word?’
On Wednesday night, Stephen Colbert performed a bit a magic for magician Penn Jillette in order to help him remember the racially charged remarks Donald Trump allegedly said.
During Omarosa Manigault Newman‘s media blitz, she insisted that she has heard the tape of Trump using the N-word during his years on The Apprentice and Jillette chimed in, saying he said “racially insensitive” comments during the taping of Celebrity Apprentice. But when pressed for details of what Trump specifically said, Jillette said the following:
“If Donald Trump had not become president, I would tell you all the stories. But the stakes are now high, and I am an unreliable narrator, so I can emotionally tell you things that happened racially, sexually… when I was in the room with Donald Trump, and I guarantee you that I will get details wrong.”
“How could you get the details wrong?!?” Colbert reacted. “There’s only one detail we’re waiting for!”
The Late Show host then offered his assistance to Jillette with a deck of playing cards.
“Penn, I want you to think back on that night, okay?” Colbert told the magician. “Picture the word that Donald Trump said.”
Colbert continued to perform his magic on the cards.
“Picture the word he said… Do you have the word in mind?” Colbert looked directly at the camera. “Is this your word?”
He then flashed a card with an “N” on it.
It is unclear if that refreshed Jillette’s memory at all.
