Colbert: Stormy Daniels’ 60 Minutes Interview Got Bigger Ratings Than Trump’s, ‘That’s Gotta Sting’
On Monday night, Stephen Colbert reacted to the Stormy Daniels interview that aired on 60 Minutes.
The Late Show host began by noting Anderson Cooper‘s sit-down was the highest-rated 60 Minutes in ten years and added that that must mean it scored bigger ratings than then President-elect Donald Trump‘s interview.
“That’s gotta sting,” Colbert grinned.
After summing up the interview and the backstory behind the payoff and the lawsuits, Colbert called the it all “insane” and “salacious” but also called it the “least surprising story” he’s ever heard and that it “felt truer than him getting elected.”
He played a clip from the interview when Daniels described spanking Trump with a magazine and how he acted “appropriate” afterwards.
“Hmm, a couple of spanks and Donald Trump started acting more appropriate,” Colbert reacted. “John Kelly, you know what to do.”
Colbert then showed the clip of Daniels saying that Trump told her she reminded him of his daughter Ivanka Trump.
“Wow, that is awkward… but not nearly as awkward as when he said to Ivanka, ‘Honey, you remind me of this porn star I had sex with,” Colbert joked.
During the interview, Daniels described her immediate regret of joining Trump in his hotel room, telling herself at the time, “Ugh, here we go.”
“‘Ugh, here we go.’ Coincidentally, that was the official theme to Trump’s inaugural ball,” Colbert quipped.
