Colbert Thanks Congressional Leadership, President Trump For Their Response to This ‘Act of Terror’
Stephen Colbert kicked off his show on Wednesday night to address the shooting at the GOP baseball practice that occurred in Alexandria, Virginia earlier that day.
The Late Show host said that “of course we’re all shocked” of the attack and that he “prays to God that everyone pulls through.”
“Violence of any kind is never justified and is the last refuge of the incompetent,” Colbert continued. “Even in the horror of this day, there was reason to take heart in bipartisan responses like this.”
He then showed the reactions of House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, who stated that “we will use this occasion to bring us together” and Speaker Paul Ryan, who said that “an attack on one of us is an attack on all of us.”
Colbert concluded his message by thanking the congressional leadership and even President Trump for “responding to this act of terror in a way that gives us hope that no matter our differences, we will always be the United States of America.”
