Colbert Throws Flag on Sam Kiss: ‘Holding! Unnecessary Tenderness!’

Last night, Stephen Colbert dutifully joined the growing number of conservative pundits were not thrilled to see Michael Sam kiss his partner on live TV after being drafted by the St. Louis Rams over the weekend. At the top of his show, he played the clip of the kiss before pulling out his whistle and giving Sam a penalty: “Holding! Unnecessary tenderness!” Colbert said.

“Folks this is just wrong,” Colbert said. “In the NFL, sexuality is supposed to take place off camera, and the fans should only find out about it when the charges are filed.”

“Don’t get me wrong. I’m a tolerant guy,” the host continued. “I don’t care who you love, as long as you can launch your body at another man’s skull like a missile made of pure hate.”

On Donald Trump‘s assertion that Sam and his partner were “really going at it,” Colbert agreed. “That is some hard-core, close-lipped brief and affectionate pecking,” he said.
