WATCH: Stephen Colbert Chats with Letterman, Reads His Own Top 10 List
Stephen Colbert appeared on his future home Tuesday night, talking with David Letterman about his big move to The Late Show next year after Letterman ends his over 30-year run in late night. Colbert told Letterman, “I’m thrilled and honored to be taking over,” and Letterman praised Colbert as a great choice and not just “another boob like me.”
Colbert told a story about how he went with his college girlfriend when she interviewed for an internship at Letterman’s old NBC show, and she didn’t get the internship, but somehow Colbert got chatty with a staffer and ended up getting an offer for himself (that he turned down).
After some more banter about his family and breaking his wrist a few years back, Colbert read off a Top 10 list he submitted as a writing sample to The Late Show all the way back in 1997. The list is Top 10 Cocktails for Santa, and it includes the cheerfully-named “Mama Said Nog You Out” and “On Comet, On Cupid, On Dasher, Wine Spritzer.”
