Colbert Welcomes Ebola to New York
Stephen Colbert returned Monday night after a week off the air, and like his lead-in he opened his show with the latest on Ebola and its unfortunate arrival in New York City. “The Ebola crisis just hit America where we live, if by we you mean I,” the host said.
“Ebola has come to New York!” Colbert exclaimed. “And if they can spread it here, they’ll spread it everywhere,” he sang, echoing a joke from Bill Maher’s Friday night show. After finding out that Dr. Craig Spencer went on a three-mile run the day before testing positive for Ebola, Colbert said, “He works out more than I do without Ebola.”
Colbert also went after quarantined nurse Kaci Hickox for “griping” to the media about her “human rights” being violated. “I’m sorry, ma’am, but the Constitution does not say you have the right to endanger your neighbors, unless it’s with a gun,” he told her.
Finally, Colbert took Dr. Sanjay Gupta’s chocolate sauce Ebola safety demonstration on CNN to the next level by adding ice cream, whipped cream, nuts and cherries.
