Commerce Sec. Wilbur Ross: ‘We’re Not Trying to Blow Up the World’ With Tariffs

Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross continued to downplay concerns about President Trump‘s planned tariffs on steel and aluminum.

He appeared on CNBC again today (sans soup can) and defended the President’s decision:

“We’re not trying to blow up the world, there’s no intention of that. We want to balance our needs to fix the trade deficit with the needs of the economy and the needs of the global economy itself.”

He also weighed in on Gary Cohn‘s departure, offering some words of praise and saying, “He’s made a very big contribution to this improved economic environment. He did very good work on the taxes. He’s doing very good work the infrastructure.”

He denied there’s some kind of “palace coup” going on.
