Cosby Rape Accuser Opens Up to Don Lemon: ‘He Was America’s Dad’

Following her column today in the Washington Post, Barbara Bowman spoke out about her allegations of rape against comedian Bill Cosby on CNN Tonight with Don Lemon.

Bowman described in detail her experiences of being drugged and raped by Cosby when she was a young actress, waking up confused in his presence without any clothes on. At one point Lemon asked her why she continued to put herself in his presence after the incidents occurred. She said there were a variety of reasons, including the fact that she was simply “scared” of Cosby.

As for why she never pressed charges against the comedian, Bowman said she tried to bring it up with an attorney and he “laughed” her out of his office. “At that point, nobody would believe me,” she said. “He was Dr. Huxtable. He was America’s dad, everybody loved him. I loved him. I wanted him to be my dad.”

Now that the statute of limitations is up on her incidents, Bowman said she just wants to “speak out and help other victims.”
